The Supreme Court of Singapore is considered to be the finest buildings built during the British period. Near The Supreme Court, stands the City Hall. The City Hall was built in the year 1929. This was actually the site where the Japanese forces had surrendered Lord Mountbatten after they were defeated in during the 1945 World war II.
A lot of visitors visit this place from time to time. The tourists as well as local people can attend all the open court hearings. But in order to get inside The Supreme Court and City you have to wear formal dress. Shorts, singlets or slippers are not allowed. Every kind of photography as well as other electronic gadgets are also prohibited. The electronic gadgets include mobile phones as well as pagers. The authorities ask the visitors to switch off the pagers or mobiles or put them into the silent mode. The Supreme Court not only serves as a court for resolving cases but it also exhibits various artifacts of history. This are exhibited on the ground floor. The Supreme Court and City Hall is located near the St. Andrews Road. There is no admission fee for getting inside the two buildings. Both the buildings are open from 8.30am to 5.00pm from Monday to Friday. On Saturdays, the buildings are open from 8.30am to 1.00 pm.
