The Spice Trail of Fort Canning Park, brings you into a world of spices as you take a stroll along the original grounds of the first Botanical Garden in Singapore. Fort Canning Park in Singapore and neighbouring museums are all located within close distance.
If you visit Fort Canning Park, you can see, smell and touch the living collection of herbs and spices at this Park. In this beautiful Park you can also find the exotic vanilla orchid and the trees of some of the most sought-after commodities in the past like nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves. Take out some time to watch squirrels play and listen to the birds sing amidst this lush green tropical greenery of this park.
A short walk from the Fort Canning Spice Trail will also take you to the Empire of Nature exhibition, the William Farquhar collection of natural history drawings at the National Museum of Singapore. While the park introduces you to the flora and fauna of Singapore, the museum here introduces you to the historical and cultural aspect of the country. Your journey will be even more memorable if you treat yourself to a refreshing spice-inspired cocktail at Muse bar at the National Museum. This year, the Society celebrates the art of woodcarving in Singapore with Phases, focusing on three key events:
Firstly, a retrospective, featuring wood sculptures by Wee Kong Chai. One of the realist artists of Singapore, Wee has been practising wood carving for more than three decades!
Next, an exhibition of some fourteen wood sculptures carved by 6 International artists & 8 Local Artists over the duration of 1st Singapore International Woodcarving Symposium (17- 24 June). As the process of carving was deemed completed, the final wood works regained liveliness and sets it aura amongst the various locations of Fort Canning. How are the works? It's calling out for visitors! Together with NParks, a treasure hunt / sculpture trail was mapped out for visitors and schools to explore and experience the beauty of Fort Canning Park and its resident sculptures In Progress!
To top it off, a photograph exhibition The Moments, that documents the symposium itself. In addition, a talk & a workshop will also be conducted in the period of the event.
